Wednesday began with a seminar on National Security by a U.S. Department of Defense Panel. Afterwards we were able to drive by, but not stop at, the site of repairs at the Pentagon. The pictures were taken through the windows of the bus but its obvious that a lot has been done since the events of 9/11. Our Workshop Without Walls (WOW) was on Capital Hill. This is where the increased security was most evident. While the students were with the Program Instructor I took the opportunity to walk completely around the US Capital and document the changes. Closed side roads, vehicle barriers, check points, and of course an increased number of armed personnel. On the East Front a "visitors center" is under construction. The era of free reign of "the peoples house" by the people is over. Lunch was at Dupont Circle, a diverse and "artsy" neighborhood in Northwest Washington. The afternoon was spent at the Washington Islamic Center and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University. At the Islamic Center, where the girls covered their heads out of respect for Islam, students were able to ask questions to help clarify the misunderstandings many Americans have with this ancient religion. That evening we all went to the Kennedy Center for a production of "Shear Madness". This long-runng non-musical production features audience participation. The pictures here show audience members questioning the "detective" about the murder at the Shear Madness Hair Salon.
